This is our first day or electronic education. Please check my website everyday to see what new work is assigned. My office hours are every Monday-Friday from 9 am to 12 noon, but I do check e-mails and Dojo messages all day, everyday. The best way to communicate with me is via e-mail and Google Classroom. We will discuss Google Hangouts later this week!

We did not have time to take Geog. #18: Asia Quiz on Friday, so we will take this quiz when we return to school.

We did not finish "Mongol" in all classes...we will discuss this when we return to school.

Last week, you received two assignments. Both are on Google Classroom.

C8L4 Cornell Notes (SSSp#54) is due at 5 am tomorrow. You have had 5 days to complete this assignment! Many of you are forgetting how to complete Cornell Notes. This includes photos, titles (both red and blue), grammar, alignment of text, etc. There is a video (the 3rd one down) on the TofC page...check it out!

You received the C8 Timeline (SSSp#55) six days ago. It is due at 5 am on Block Day (Wed./Thurs.). Let me know if you have any questions.

Today, you are receiving Geog. #19 (SSSp#56). It will be due the day after we return to school. If you can, click on the two maps to the right and print them. You can insert these on the next 2 blank pages in your SS Spiral Notebook. You can already practice this each day to get ready for the quiz by checking Quizlet!

You'll notice that 4 of the 5 locations added for this geography are the 4 large islands of Japan. That is why this week we have two maps. Put one map as shown on the example above. The separate map of the islands of Japan should be placed on the next two blank pages. (We did the same thing with maps from the Americas.)

The print the two maps, click on the icon of the maps to the right.

Geog. #19: Asia is the last assignment in our spiral for our unit on Asia, so you can start to complete your TofC. The spiral will be due the week we return. Go to the TofC page for a larger version of this page.

Click on the map to the right to open a PDF version to print.

NO NEW HOMEWORK! JUST A REMINDER....

C8 Timeline (SSSp#55) is due at 5 am on Block Day (Wed. for periods 2, 6 and 8, Thursday for periods 3 and 7).

Geog. #19: Asia (SSSp#56) is due when I see you next. But you can do either the paper version, or the electronic version. For the paper version, see below to click on and print the 2 maps. For electronic, see Google Classroom, the file folder called "Geography Homework 2020", then look for "Geog. #19: Asia Homework". You can already practice this geography on Quizlet!

We've now officially completed work on our Asia Unit. If you like, you could complete your SSSpiral TofC.

Due this morning was C8L4 Cornell Notes (SSSp#54). I hope we can try later this week to review it on Google Hangouts! I will keep you informed!

Check yesterday's podcast (Monday, March 16, 2020) to review what we started.

As we finish our unit on Asia,I am now giving you our Chapter 8 Test. It is posted and open on Testmoz. The directions are on Google Classroom under the C7-C8 Asia folder. I usually give you a paper handout (see to the right). I could not do so this time. See the          triangle on the right? This is for questions #51-#55. I posted it on Google as well...I could not put this graphic on Testmoz. The questions ask what are the 5 layers of the hierarchy (who is at top, who is at the bottom) of society in Japan. You can use your own notes when taking the test, but NOT the textbook (paper or electronic). You have until 10 pm on Sunday to complete the C8 Test.

You could also finish your TofC for your spiral. You will turn in your spiral the next time we meet.

The final assignment is to tell me what you learned...the "L" on KWL (SSSp#42). I sent this assignment back to you to finish the "L". This is due by 10 pm on Friday, March 20!

I mentioned before that since our next step for next week in class was to watch our reward film "The Last Samurai" to confirm and add information about Japan, I would like to save this for we return. I don't want to skip it! It is such a good tool to add to you knowledg about the history of Japan while also helping you remember the concepts in the future.

SO...next week, I would like to start our next unit on the Middle Ages! (That way, when we return, we can still take time to watch "The Last Samurai". The Middle Ages, also called

Medieval Time, the Dark Ages, the time of the plague, is a fascinating time that relates to much to what is happening to us today! So I am posting it a little early, and it is extra points (you don't have to watch it), but I have linked a video about the Middle Ages and the plague. See the new page "Extra Points During School Closure" and you will find the project. Anyone who watches it and completes the project will get extra points.

Also, check the new page "Extra Points During School Closure"...some people have watched the video on the ninjas. Some are writing their own Journal each day...I am going to post my own journal to give you an idea of what is this project. You could start your own!

Please let me know if you have any questions! Let's all be strong and work with our family and friends to survive during this important event being added to world history!

Friday, March 20, 2020

Due tonight at 10 pm is SSSp#42 which is KWL. You've already told me what you know (K) and what you WANT (W) to learn. Now, you tell me what you learned about Japan on the L.

As we finish our unit on Asia,I am now giving you our Chapter 8 Test. It is posted and open on Testmoz. The directions are on Google Classroom under the C7-C8 Asia folder. I usually give you a paper handout (see to the right). I could not do so this time. You can use your own notes when taking the test, but NOT the textbook (paper or electronic). You have until 10 pm on Sunday to complete the C8 Test.

Also, don't forget that there are ways to get some extra credit and extra points. Check the page on my web site titled "Extra Points During School Closure".

Monday, March 23, 2020

Today, we are starting our new unit about the MIDDLE AGES!

In starting our new unit, we are creating a new Table of Contents (TofC). By looking at the TofC, you will see all new assingments that are required for all. Because we will be out of school until May, we WILL NOT create a real TofC. We will not have a paper spiral notebook for this unit!

Our first assignment is KWL and the Middle Ages (SSSp#57). This is due on TUESDAY at 5 am.

For our next assingment, you have a choice! You can complete either C9L1 Cornell Notes (SSSp#58) or C9L1 Q&A (SSSp#58). This is due at 10 pm on Wednesday! Don't wait until the last minute to complete this assingnment! This first lesson from Chapter 9 is about what happened in Europe when the Roman Empire collapsed. Europe changed from one big empire to a land of many small kingdoms. The Cornell Notes on this lesson has 13 titles; the Q&A has questions.

Our next assignment is Geog. #20: Europe (SSSp#59). Since we are on school closure, this assignment will be on Google Classroom, not in our spiral notebook. For this assignment, you still have to type in the names of the locations...you get the names from the list on this page. This is due at 5 am on Thursday! For these geographies, you can take the quiz, but it will not apply as a grade. We will wait until we return to school and you take it on paper for the score to be added to your grade.

Remember, during school closure, though my Office Hours at 9 am to 12 noon Monday - Friday, I do check e-mail and Dojo messages from 6 am to 10 pm each day. Please let me know IF YOU EVER HAVE ANY QUESTIONS!!

Also, I started a new opportunity for extra points...it is FLIPGRID and Buddhism! Listen to the video about Buddhism and tell us YOUR opinion!

Friday, March 27, 2020

We normally take a geography quiz every Friday, but with school closure, we have not been able to do so. But now we can start. I am now downloading the map for quiz on Google Classroom. But since I cannot monitor the taking of these quizzes, I may not add the score to PowerSchool, but this is still good practice for the locations around the world that we are learning. The first one is the regular quiz, the second one is marked as Honors.

Please take 3 quizzes before Wed., April 8 (you still have Spring Break without homework)! Geog. #18 and #19 are both Asia. In fact, Geog. #19 has only 5 more locations than #18. Geog. #20 is our return to Europe....this quiz has only 17 locations.

E-mail me if you have any questions!
